The IKN Post — Atma Jaya Jakarta Halts Ferienjob Internship Program and Ensures Student Safety

Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia (UAJ) Jakarta confirms the discontinuation of the Ferienjob internship program in Germany, involving 27 students from various faculties of UAJ, since February 2024. All students have returned to their homeland safely and in good health.

According to Dr. Agustina Dwi Retno Nurcahyanti, the University Secretary, “We have conducted internal investigations and thorough evaluations of the Ferienjob program in Germany. The program was halted earlier this year after students returned safely, which is our top priority.”

The evaluation conducted in collaboration with the International Office of Atma Jaya highlighted several issues that require improvement, including suboptimal management in job placements. This encompasses issues such as student deployment processes, finances, and workplace protection.

Agustina further added, “We have taken proactive steps to ensure the safety and well-being of students from the outset of the program, including pre-departure briefings and coordination with various relevant parties.”

UAJ has also issued internal circulars regarding the termination of this program and has enhanced coordination with the Ministry of Education and Culture as well as other higher education institutions to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

Furthermore, UAJ is committed to continuously enhancing international cooperation with other developed countries in Asia and Europe.

Agustina emphasized, “This experience serves as a valuable learning opportunity for us. We will be more vigilant in planning and implementing internship programs in the future.”

Finally, UAJ reaffirms its readiness to take legal action if necessary to uphold the university’s reputation and ensure a conducive teaching and learning environment.
