SINGAPORE: A Singaporean woman who went missing while on holiday in Spain was found dead with multiple stab wounds, Spanish media reported on Wednesday (April 17).

A Singaporean man has been arrested in connection with her death.

Audrey Fang, 39, arrived in the country for a solo trip on April 4 and is scheduled to return to Singapore on April 12.

He was scheduled to stay at a luxury hotel in the town of Xabia on Spain’s east coast until April 10, but was last heard from on April 9.

He was reported missing after leaving his room at around 8.45pm that day. His belongings were left in his room and he did not catch the plane back to Singapore from Barcelona.

Fang’s body was reportedly found with multiple stab wounds near a truck parking area in Abanilla municipality on April 10, but local authorities only identified him on Wednesday.

According to the online newspaper El Espanol, his body was discovered by the chief inspector of the local police division when he was on his way to breakfast at a restaurant near the RM-422 highway in Abanilla.

Abanilla is located about 150 km from Xabia. It is located in the province of Murcia while Xabia is in the neighboring province of Alicante.

A Singaporean man was arrested by the Spanish Civil Guard on Tuesday in connection with Fang’s death and he is expected to appear in court later this week, El Espanol said.

The newspaper added that authorities have not disclosed the nature of his relationship with Fang.

Responding to questions from CNA on Thursday, a spokesperson for Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) said that Singapore’s Honorary Consulate General (HCG) in Madrid “has been in contact with local authorities regarding this case”.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is not in a position to comment on this case as the investigation is still ongoing,” the spokesperson said.

“The MFA and HCG have provided consular assistance and support to the Fang family. We extend our deepest condolences to the family.”
