The Indonesian horror film, Badarawuhi di Desa Penari, which has been showing in Indonesia since April 11 2024, will also be showing in United States cinemas in mid-April 2024 with the title “Dancing Village: The Curse Begins“.
The premiere of this film was held in early April at the MCA IMAX studio cinema, Westfield Century City, Los Angeles, United States.
This screening in the US is the result of collaboration between the film’s production house, MD Pictures, and Lionsgate to distribute this film globally.
A prequel to the film KKN in Penari Village directed by Awi Suryadi, Badarawuhi directed by Kimo Stamboel tells the story of Mila and her relatives who search for Penari Village in the 1980s to cure their mother’s illness.
However, in their search, they actually encounter terror from Badarawuhi, a mysterious, strong dancer who is the guardian of the village.
Producer and CEO of MD Pictures, Manoj Punjabi, admitted that he had made a strategy so that this film could be shown globally seven years ago.
Over the last two years, he has begun to intensively establish communication with several large companies and distributors in Hollywood. Until finally, Lionsgate was interested in what he proposed at that time.
“I want the right one, last year there was interest (from them) then this February we showed them the first five minutes of the film (Sewu Dino) Sequence Zero. Even though they wanted to see the film, it was raw, that’s okay, but I didn’t want to “So they rushed to clean it up, the first five minutes before they believed it,” said Manoj, quoted from Detik.
