PUTRAJAYA: Prabowo Subianto continues his overseas tour after becoming elected president.
After meeting Chinese President Xi Jinping and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, Prabowo moved to his “neighboring” country.
The Minister of Defense (Menhan) was received by Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim during a courtesy call at his office, Perdana Putra, Putrajaya, Thursday at 9 am (April 4), Bernama news agency reported.
Prabowo’s meeting with Anwar is not the first time.
Previously, these two politicians also met in Putrajaya on November 30 last year in the middle of the 2024 presidential election campaign season.
Anwar called Prabowo his old friend.
The 76-year-old PM was also one of the first world leaders to congratulate Prabowo after his victory in the 2024 presidential election.
Prabowo arrived in Malaysia last night at 22.15 local time and is scheduled to be in Malaysia for one day before returning to Jakarta.
The 72 year old Defense Minister will also hold a bilateral meeting with Malaysian Defense Minister Mohamed Khaled Nordin.
Prabowo has a special relationship with Malaysia.
The former Danjen Kopassus is an alumnus of the Victoria Institution in Kuala Lumpur.
Apart from that, Prabowo is also close friends with the King of Malaysia Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim of Johor.
They both studied at military academies at Fort Bragg and Fort Benning, United States in the 1980s.
