JAKARTA: Two pairs of presidential-vice presidential candidates (capres-cawapres) who lost in the 2024 presidential election (pilpres) have submitted a General Election Results Dispute (PHPU) request to the Constitutional Court (MK).
National team pair number 01, Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar, filed a lawsuit on Thursday (21 March).
Meanwhile, pair number 03, Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud MD, registered a lawsuit on Saturday (23 March).
According to the official MK website quoted by Detiknews, the application from Anies-Cak Imin was registered with Number 1/PHPU.PRES-XXII/2024 on March 25 2024 at 15.35 WIB. Likewise, the application from Ganjar-Mahfud was also registered on the same date and at the same time.
Both candidate pair number 01 and number 03 submitted requests for a repeat voting (PSU) by disqualifying candidate pair number 02, Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming.
They demanded that the Constitutional Court order the General Election Commission (KPU) to hold the 2024 presidential election without the Prabowo-Gibran pair, CNBC Indonesia reported.
Prabowo-Gibran has been declared the winner of the 2024 presidential election based on the results of the national vote recapitulation of the 2024 election announced by the KPU.
The reason for their lawsuit is that Gibran’s candidacy was marred by serious ethical violations.
Gibran’s uncle, who at that time served as Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court, Anwar Usman, was proven to have violated ethics in deciding the minimum age requirement for vice presidential candidates.
This decision is considered to have paved the way for Gibran to run as a vice presidential candidate.
Apart from that, they also assessed the existence of structured, systematic and massive (TSM) violations.
However, in the upcoming 2024 presidential election dispute trial, Anwar himself has been declared not permitted to be involved. This is in accordance with the Decision of the MK Honorary Council which removed Anwar Usman from his position as Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court on November 7 2023.
The Constitutional Court will hold its first hearing on the dispute over the results of the 2024 general election starting next Wednesday (27 March).
