Dr Balakrishnan updated Palestinian leaders on Singapore’s humanitarian assistance to Gaza, including the third phase of aid and the S$6.1 million donation raised by the Rahmatan Lil Alamin Foundation for the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East.
He also emphasized Singapore’s support for a negotiated two-state solution, calling it “the only path to a comprehensive, just and durable peace”.
Singapore also reaffirmed its commitment to support efforts to increase PA capacity in the civil service and digital government.
“More than 700 PA officials have benefited from postgraduate training and scholarship programs provided by Singapore,” said the MFA.
“The opening of the Singapore Representative Office in Ramallah in October 2022 has broadened the reach and strengthened Singapore’s delivery of technical assistance to the PA.”
Dr Balakrishnan was accompanied by a delegation including five Members of the Singapore Parliament.
He and the Singapore delegation were on a visit to the Middle East from Monday (18 March) to Sunday (24 March). They will also go to Israel, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt and Saudi Arabia.
They were in the Jordanian capital, Amman, at the weekend to attend a ceremony to donate S$6.1 million (US$4.5 million) in humanitarian aid collected by Singaporeans for Gaza humanitarian efforts.
