MATRANEWS.ID – The practice of money politics is a serious challenge in election contestation, encouraging the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to continue to take effective preventive steps.
One of the efforts made is the preparation of Political Party Integrity System Guidelines (SIPP) to ensure integrity in party leadership.
The KPK’s Director of Socialization and Anti-Corruption Campaigns, Amir Arief, emphasized the importance of implementing anti-corruption measures within political parties.
This is especially related to party cadres who will hold public office at the regional level.
In a discussion with the theme “Building the Integrity of Political Parties that are Anti-Money Politics” when he was a resource person in the Technical Guidance for Crescent Star Party DPRD Members in Jakarta on Friday (29/9/2023).
Amir said, “In this way, political parties can implement anti-corruption steps and strategies for their cadres who will serve as regional heads.”
Eradicating money politics is not an easy task, because this habit has become rampant in society.
Amir emphasized that apart from the integrity of politicians, rejection of the practice of money politics also requires support and efforts from people who have a high level of integrity.
The KPK believes that political parties have a vital role in creating intelligent and dignified political mechanisms.
Political parties are the holders of the people’s vote and play an important role in guiding party cadres to public office, both in the executive and legislative branches.
They have the duty and authority to create policies or laws (UU) that reflect the interests of the people.
Amir added, “The current election has turned into a contestation that is more focused on competition for votes through money politics rather than ideological contestation.”
In the KPK’s perspective, strong and clean leadership from political parties has a central role in preventing the practice of money politics. The Corruption Eradication Commission is also committed to working with the UN in providing anti-money politics education.
“Thank you to the PBB leadership who routinely provides anti-corruption education to cadres in various technical guidance activities,” said Amir.
The results of a KPK study regarding money politics revealed that 72 percent of voters accepted this practice.
The results of further analysis show that 82 percent of recipients of money politics are women over 35 years of age.
The main causes of women’s acceptance of money politics include economic factors, pressure from other parties, ignorance of sanctions, and a lack of understanding about money politics.
Amir highlighted, “Money politics is the root of problems in the political sector. “This practice, better known as the ‘Dawn Attack’, is a criminal act that triggers corruption.”
