JAKARTA: The Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) announced that three mapped points are prone to experiencing severe traffic jams during the 2024 Eid homecoming.
Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi said that the Cipali Toll Road, Merak Harbor and Ketapang Harbor are the focus of his ministry.
“This mapping is important to overcome serious traffic jams.” Budi Karya conveyed this to Liputan 6 after opening the 2024 Eid Transport Integrated Post, at the Ministry of Transportation Office on Wednesday (4 April).
Budi continued that specifically for the Cipali Toll Road, the Ministry of Transportation together with the National Police Traffic Corps will implement a one-way system or use part of the lane in the opposite direction (contraflow).
Don’t forget, the odd-even rule will be applied if necessary.
Korlantas, reported by CNN Indonesia, said that the Cipali toll road point which is expected to become a bottleneck is KM 72, KM 87, and KM 89.
The bottleneck refers to the narrowing of the route which is prone to causing traffic jams.
Korlantas will hold Operation Ketupat 2024 simultaneously from April 4 to 16 to ensure security and smooth back and forth flow during Eid 2024.
The government estimates that the peak flow of homecoming for Idul Fitri 1445 H will occur from tomorrow April 5 to April 7 2024.
The peak return flow is predicted to be April 14-15 2024.
It is predicted that the number of homecoming travelers this year will reach 193.6 million people, an increase of around 60 percent compared to 2023.
The Minister of Transportation also advised the public not to go home using motorbikes.
