Kunti Island, a tourist destination that has long been a magnet for local and foreign tourists, must now be closed to visitors.
This decision was announced after a coordination meeting on the governance of Kunti Island and Pasir Putih Beach which was held at the end of 2023 at the Mandrajaya Village office, Ciemas District, Sukabumi Regency.
Kunti Island, which is located in the Cibanteng Nature Reserve area or Cikepuh wildlife forest, has long been one of the main attractions in the Ciletuh Palabuhanratu Unesco Global Geopark (CPUGGp).
However, the decision to close access to the island was based on important considerations related to preserving the ecosystem and its natural functions.
The coordination meeting was attended by various related parties, including the Head of the Cikepuh Natural Resources Conservation Center (BKSDA), Head of the ESDM Section of the Sukabumi Regency Government, the CPUGGp Management Agency, and tourism business actors in related fields.
The results of the meeting’s decision confirmed that closing Kunti Island was a necessary step to minimize negative impacts on the island and its surrounding ecosystem.
Kunti Island, which has its own uniqueness and beauty, is now inaccessible to anyone, both tourists and local people.
Although this decision is disappointing for many parties who want to explore the natural beauty and mysteries stored on the island, it is hoped that this closure will provide better protection for the environment.
Apart from Kunti Island, Pasir Putih Beach is also included in the list of locations that can no longer be visited by tourists.
These two locations, although they offer extraordinary attractions for visitors, must now be more strictly guarded and preserved in accordance with their designation in the Cibanteng Nature Reserve area.
With the closure of Kunti Island, we are reminded of the importance of awareness of environmental conservation and tourism sustainability.
Even though access to this place has been closed, hopefully this step will open the door to wider nature conservation efforts, so that the beauty of Kunti Island can be enjoyed by future generations.
