THE IKN POST — Investment Plans of Korean Water Resources in Indonesia

On June 18, 2024, significant strides were made towards enhancing Indonesia’s infrastructure through a series of visits by Korean Water Resources Corporation officials.

The focus was on pivotal projects, notably the completion of the Patimban Port in Subang, a National Strategic Project slated for 2027, capable of handling 7 million TEUs of containers annually.

Among the local stakeholders involved is Perumda Air Minum Tirta Rangga Subang, a Regional Owned Enterprise tasked with developing the Clean Water Supply System (SPAM) for Patimban Port and its surrounding areas.

During the visit, key figures from Korea Water Resources Corporation, including Indonesia Representative Park Se Won, Oukyeong Lee from the Press Relation Team, Yeyoon Kim from Dong-A Ilbo (a leading Korean newspaper since 1920), and Ismeth Wibowo were present.

Representing Perumda Air Minum Tirta Rangga Subang were Lukman Nurhakim (President Director), Nana Ruhana (Technical Director), and Ujang (General Director).

Nana Ruhana emphasized their goal to supply 42 liters per second of raw water, achieving 5 liters per second in the initial construction phase.

He also highlighted the current 900 cubic meter reservoir at Patimban Port, set to double in capacity moving forward.

To facilitate these objectives, Perumda Tirta Rangga Subang is actively promoting investment potentials at Patimban.

Furthermore, on June 20, 2024, the West Java Investment Roadshow in Jakarta further solidified these initiatives, underscoring Indonesia’s commitment to fostering strategic partnerships for sustainable development.

This collaborative effort between Korean Water Resources Corporation and local entities not only enhances infrastructure capabilities but also sets a precedent for future investments, bolstering Indonesia’s position as a key player in regional economic growth.

Potential Cooperation in the Lake Toba Region

Beyond West Java, K Water also showed interest in developing infrastructure in the Lake Toba region, North Sumatra. On June 20, 2024, the Korean SOE participated in a strategic meeting in South Jakarta initiated by the Lake Toba Authority Agency (BPODT).

During the meeting, Bae Hyun Jin from K Water emphasized the importance of clean energy supply in Lake Toba, a Super Priority Tourism Destination.
