TheIKNPost.com — In Memoriam: Dr. Lo Siauw Ging, Doctor Who Serves Selflessly in Solo
On Tuesday, January 9 2024, the city of Solo lost one of its extraordinary doctors, Dr. Lo Siauw Ging, who is familiarly called “Lo.”
This doctor is not only known for his expertise in diagnosing diseases, but also for his extraordinary spirit of selfless service.
Dr. Lo Siauw Ging has left us, but his legacy as a dedicated and caring doctor will continue to be remembered by many people.
The man was born in Magelang on August 16 1934, into the family of moderate tobacco entrepreneurs, Lo Ban Tjiang and Liem Hwat Nio.
After completing his secondary education in Semarang, Dr. Lo decided to pursue his dream in the medical field.
His father’s message still echoed in his ears, that a true doctor does not only look for material things, but rather his noble duty of helping others.
Since 1963, Dr. Lo started his career as a doctor at the Tsi Sheng Yuan Polyclinic which is owned by Dr. Oen Boen Ing.
This polyclinic later developed into Panti Kosala Hospital and is now known as Dr. Oen. Dr. Lo learned a lot from his mentor and employer, Dr. Oen, who is not only skilled in medicine but also has an extraordinary social spirit.
One of the things that makes Dr. Lo Siauw Ging’s special policy is to never ask patients for payment. Even the cost of medicine is sometimes paid by your doctor himself.
This doctor also helps patients who cannot afford prescriptions and even looks for donors for the costs of surgery for patients in need.
Doctor Lo is known for his firm speaking style. He did not hesitate to reprimand patients who underestimated the disease and encouraged them to get immediate medical help.
His enthusiasm to keep his practice open during the May 1998 riots shows his dedication to his noble duty.
Even though he has become a hospital director and received a MURI award in 2020, Dr. Lo Siauw Ging keeps it simple.
Together with his wife, Maria Gandi, they live in an old house that has remained relatively unchanged since it was first built. He always emphasizes the importance of his wife’s role in everything he has achieved.
At 89 years old, Dr. Lo Siauw Ging left us peacefully at Kasih Ibu Hospital, Solo, on Tuesday, January 9 2024.
His legacy as a doctor who served selflessly and with compassion will live on in our memories. May God bless and forgive him. Goodbye, Doctor Lo Siauw Ging.
