NUTRITIONAL VALUE NUMBER OF CALORIES?
Nutritionally, dried and fresh dates contain very similar nutritional value – it’s just that dried dates will have more calories.
“All dates are a natural source of fructose, a carbohydrate that will provide a good dose of energy,” says Reutens.
In addition, dates also contain fiber and potassium, and although dates contain other minerals such as iron, calcium, zinc and magnesium, the amounts are not significant, he said.
Reutens suggests consuming three to five dates for a quick energy boost. “Five dried dates contain about 168 calories and 22 grams of carbohydrates, so this is a pretty good snack choice,” he said.
However, for diabetes sufferers, Reutens recommends eating just three fruits because the glycemic index of dates can range from 31 to 60, he said.
