DUBAI: Dubai International Airport in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is starting to operate slowly after severe floods paralyzed the rich country.
The airport authority was reported by The National to welcome flights to Dubai again starting Thursday (18 April).
However, he added that there would be flight delays due to flood clean-up operations that were still being carried out.
Emirates airline announced it has reopened check-in services at terminal 3 for flights departing Dubai from 9am Thursday.
Flydubai has also resumed same-day check-in services at Terminals 2 and 3.
Dubai International Airport has a total of three terminals.
Majed Al Joker Airport Chief Operating Officer told Al Arabiya the airport would return to full operation in the next 24 hours.
“After operations return to normal, we will evaluate the damage and calculate the loss figure.”
The world’s busiest airport has been completely paralyzed since Tuesday (April 16) after devastating floods turned the runway into a puddle of sea water.
It is reported that one year’s rainfall fell in 12 hours in Dubai. The 254mm rainfall was the highest in 75 years.
The flooding resulted in diversions, delays and cancellations of flights to and from Dubai.
Apart from the accumulation of passengers, airports also have to deal with passengers’ baggage.
Sheikh Zayed Road, a 12-lane highway that runs through Dubai, was partially flooded, leaving drivers stuck in a kilometer-long traffic jam for hours.
