SEMARANG: The Rosalia Indah bus with plate number AD 7019 QA fell into a ditch on the Batang Kilometer 370 toll road, lane A, Thursday (11 April) at 06.35 am.
This accident killed seven passengers, two of whom were toddlers.
The four fatalities who were identified were two people each from Bekasi, one person from Wonogiri, and one person from Nganjuk.
All the victims who died have been taken to the Muhammadiyah Kendal Islamic Hospital in Weleri.
It is known that the bus was carrying 34 people, including one driver and one conductor.
15 passengers were reported to have been injured. The remaining 12 passengers are safe.
The police suspect that the bus driver, Rosalia Indah, was sleepy while driving.
The accident started when the Rosalia Indah bus was traveling from west to east in the left lane of the road.
Arriving at the scene, the bus left the road and entered a 200 meter ditch, the Head of Public Relations of the Central Java Regional Police, Commissioner Satake Bayu, told Kompas.com.
Before the accident occurred, the Rosalia Indah bus had stopped at KM 227 of the Pejagan-Palimanan toll road to change vehicles with the same driver.
Batang Resort Police Chief Adjunct Senior Commissioner of Police Nur Cahyo Ari Prasetyo, after checking the condition of the survivors, was quoted by the Antara news agency as saying that all the bus passengers were travelers who departed from Bekasi’s Pondok Ungu Terminal bound for East Java.
PT Jasamarga Semarang Batang (JSB) has succeeded in evacuating the bus that was in the ditch.
It was observed that the Batang-Semarang toll road section was running smoothly again after the bus evacuation.
