DHF cases in 2024 will continue to skyrocket, reaching 60 thousand, 455 deaths

JAKARTA: Cases of dengue hemorrhagic fever (DBD) in Indonesia will continue to soar throughout 2024.

The latest data from the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes), Monday (8 April) cumulatively shows that dengue cases in this period were three times higher than last year.

There were 60,296 cases recorded with 455 fatalities in the 14th week of this year.

In the same period in week 14 of 2023, only 20,502 dengue fever cases were found with a death rate of 162.

Head of the Communications and Public Services Bureau of the Ministry of Health, Siti Nadia Tarmizi, as reported by detikHealth, said that the highest number of dengue fever cases so far was in Tangerang Regency with 2,540 cases.

The second place is Bandung City with 1,741 cases, followed by West Bandung Regency with 1,422 cases, Lebak Regency with 1,326 cases, and Depok City with 1,252 cases.

Bandung Regency is the area with the highest death rate due to dengue fever this year, namely 25 cases.

Jepara Regency is in second place with 21 deaths, followed by Subang Regency with 18 deaths, Kendal Regency with 16 deaths and Bogor Regency with 13 deaths.

The Director General of Disease Prevention and Control (P2P) of the Indonesian Ministry of Health, Dr. Maxi Rein Rondonuwu, told CNN Indonesia that there is a risk that dengue cases will continue into the transition season.

Maxi asked the public not to panic. According to him, the most important thing is to keep oneself and the environment clean.

The soaring number of dengue fever cases has prompted the issuance of instructions from a number of acting regional heads asking residents to use anti-mosquito lotion to prevent infection.

DHF Extraordinary Event Status (KLB) has been declared in several areas such as Dharmasraya, Subang, Jepara, Enrekang, West Kutai, East Lampung and Nagekeo.
