JAKARTA: Minister of Transportation (Menhub) Budi Karya Sumadi put forward a proposal to implement a work from home policy or work from home (WFH) as a step to relieve crowds during the return of Eid 2024.
“We are proposing to the President to implement work from home on Tuesdays and Wednesdays,” he said during the Halal Bi Halal Idul Fitri 2024 event at the Ministry of Transportation Office, Jakarta, Thursday (11 April), to Kompas.com.
The peak return flow is expected to occur on April 14-15 2024.
It is hoped that implementing WFH for two days on Tuesday (16 April) and Wednesday (17 April) can reduce density on the roads.
“We see that the time available is very short compared to the homecoming time. Therefore, we will carry out management to ensure the situation becomes more relaxed,” added the 67-year-old minister.
However, Minister Budi stated that the WFH policy was still a proposal and would soon be submitted to President Joko Widodo (Jokowi).
He hopes that Jokowi will agree to this proposal.
“This is still in the discussion stage, still in the proposal stage, hopefully the President agrees. If it is successful (approved), then workers can work online from their respective locations,” he said.
The number of homecoming travelers for Eid 2024 or Eid al-Fitr 1445 H reached 193.6 million people. This figure is equivalent to 71.7 percent of Indonesia’s total population.
