TUBAN: An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.0 shook Tuban, East Java, Friday (22 March) at 11.22 WIB.
According to the Head of the Earthquake and Tsunami Center from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), Daryono, the epicenter of the earthquake was located at coordinates 5.79 degrees south latitude and 112.32 degrees east longitude, in the sea at a distance of 126 kilometers northeast of Tuban at a depth of 10 kilometers.
“The impact of the earthquake vibrations was also felt in Bawean, Gresik, East Java, especially during the day by residents who were indoors,” said Daryono in his statement to Kompas.com.
Earthquake shocks were also felt in Jepara, Lamongan, Bojonegoro, Surabaya, Kudus, Blora, Pekalongan, Nganjuk, Pacitan, Trenggalek, Tulungagung, Sidoarjo, Madiun, Pasuruan and Malang.
In fact, earthquake vibrations were felt as far away as Central Java and the Special Region of Yogyakarta, as reported by residents of Semarang and Yogyakarta.
The cause of this earthquake is thought to have come from active fault activity in the Java Sea, and is included in the type of shallow tectonic earthquake.
The results of the BMKG analysis reported by the Reuters news agency confirmed that the earthquake did not have the potential to cause a tsunami.
Until now, there have been no reports of damage caused by the earthquake
