HONG KONG: The Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia (KJRI) in Hong Kong confirmed that two Indonesian citizens (WNI) were victims of a fire that occurred in the New Lucky House apartment building, in Kowloon District, Hong Kong, Wednesday (10 April) at around 07.53 am local time .
Local media The Standard reported that the two Indonesian citizens were identified as a young couple named Ricky Saniar (23 years) and Bregita Thalia Phang (24 years).
The two are said to have been dating since 2018 and worked together at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel, Hong Kong.
Ricky is a bartender while Bregita works as a chef.
They are known to often upload romantic photos together on Instagram around Hong Kong.
This fire claimed five lives, including three men and two women.
In addition, around 43 other people were injured, of which seven were in critical condition.
Two of them suffered serious injuries, including a 7-month-old baby.
150 residents were evacuated to a safe place following the red rooster’s intense blaze which was only extinguished an hour later at 08.54.
Local authorities are still investigating the exact cause of the fire, with suspicion that the fire started in the gym area on the first floor of the 16-story building.
The Indonesian Consulate General in Hong Kong has coordinated with local authorities and the families of the victims in Indonesia to convey this sad news.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu) and the Indonesian Consulate General in Hong Kong are facilitating the repatriation of the bodies of the two victims and ensuring that their rights as Indonesian citizens are fully fulfilled.
