2 of 6 Indonesian citizens who robbed an expensive watch shop in Hong Kong were released on bail

HONG KONG: The Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia (KJRI) Hong Kong has confirmed the correctness of information about the arrest of six Indonesian citizens (WNI) who were suspected of being involved in the robbery of the Legend Success Timepiece luxury watch shop which shocked the city.

“The Indonesian Consulate General in Hong Kong has received information from the Hong Kong Police (HKPF) regarding the arrest of six Indonesian citizens suspected of being involved in a sharp-armed robbery at a luxury watch shop in the Causeway Bay area.” reads a statement received by CNA, Wednesday (March 20).

The Indonesian Consulate General in Hong Kong has requested consular access to meet the six suspects. So far two of the six Indonesian citizens have given consent (permit) for consular access.

HKPF said access would be granted as soon as the investigation process was complete.

Four suspects are currently undergoing detention in the correctional facility or internal prison cell of the Hong Kong Police;

The remaining two people have been released on bail.

The Indonesian Consulate General in Hong Kong stated that it would continue to coordinate with the HKPF to obtain more complete information, as well as ensure that Indonesian citizens receive legal assistance rights in accordance with applicable regulations.

Previously, it was reported that six people robbed 25 luxury watches worth more than 6 million Hong Kong dollars (around Rp. 12 billion) on February 28.

It is said that many luxury watch shop robbery crimes have occurred in Hong Kong in the last 3 years. HKPF suspects that the various robbery crimes were carried out by a syndicate.

Those arrested were three women and three Indonesian men aged between 26 and 35 years.

Police succeeded in arresting all the suspects in San Po Kong, Yuen Long and Tuen Mun after examining CCTV footage throughout Hong Kong.

Police said that four of the six people had exceeded their residence permits in Hong Kong, while one other person was allegedly involved in a torture case.
