13 dead, chronology of the deadly Gran Max accident on the Jakarta-Cikampek KM 58 toll road

JAKARTA: A deadly accident that claimed the lives of 13 people occurred on the Jakarta-Cikampek KM 58 toll road, Karawang, West Java, Monday morning (April 8) at 07.04 WIB.

According to the Kompas.com report, one person suffered serious injuries and another victim had minor injuries.

The incident, which occurred in the midst of peak traffic congestion, involved three vehicles, namely a Daihatsu Gran Max car with plate number B 1635 BKT, a Daihatsu Terios car with plate number E 1399 MF, and a Primajasa bus with plate number B 7655 TGD.

The burnt-out Grand Max car was registered on the STNK in the name of Yanti Setyawan Budidarma. However, when the search was carried out, the name did not match the address listed on the STNK.

CHRONOLOGY

The accident started when the Gran Max car was traveling from Jakarta to Cikampek via the contraflow lane of the Jakarta-Cikampek KM 58 toll road.

This contraflow route is being implemented as a route engineering to reduce homecoming traffic congestion.

The Gran Max was said to be having problems and wanted to pull over to the right shoulder of the road.

When Gran Max crossed into the opposite lane, the car hit a Primajasa bus from Cikampek which was unable to avoid it.

After the violent collision occurred, a Terios car passed by and tried to avoid it. Unfortunately, the car was too late to stop and actually hit Gran Max.

Gran Max and Terios were burnt as a result of the accident. Meanwhile, the Primajasa bus suffered damage to the front.

The devastating accident also caused the road divider around the crime scene (TKP) to be dented.

Kakorlantas Polri Inspector General Pol Aan Suhanan said the results of the evacuation showed that 13 victims died due to burns all over their bodies.

According to Tribunnews, the victim’s position, according to the Head of the Karawang SAR Unit, Daniel Nasution, was pinned down by a part of the car, so his team together with the Karawang Regency Fire Brigade cut a number of parts of the car.

They were identified as all passengers in the Gran Max car.

The Primajasa bus driver suffered serious injuries and one victim from Terios suffered minor injuries.

Aan continued that the unfortunate Gran Max was thought to be in poor condition overload or overloaded.

According to him, Multi Purpose Vehicle (MPV) vehicles such as the Gran Max are actually only capable of carrying eight passengers.

So far the two victims who have been identified are Aisya Hasna, female, aged 19 years and Rizki Prastya, male, aged 22 years.
